What Are Skin Tags?
Skin tags are painless and harmless growths of skin that are connected to the body but do not look like a mole or birthmark. Most commonly found in men and women over the age of 50, skin tags have the potential to grow in most places on the body. While skin tags don’t pose any harm and are never malignant, many of our patients wish to treat or remove their skin tags for aesthetic purposes.

What Causes Skin Tags?
Skin tags are small protrusions of skin on the body that are not painful or harmful, but researchers are still unsure why they develop on the skin. Because they are most commonly found where the skin naturally folds on the body, most researchers believe they are simply a result of friction when the skin rubs together. Patients who may be at a higher risk of developing skin tags are men and women over the age of 50 who are overweight and have a family history of developing skin tags. Women who are pregnant may also have a higher risk of developing skin tags.
