What is Eczema?
Eczema, also commonly referred to as atopic dermatitis, is an autoimmune skin condition that causes the appearance of red, scaly patches of skin. Although most often seen in infants and young children, eczema has the potential to stay prevalent through adolescence and adulthood. In addition to the skin being red and scaly, patients with eczema may also find that these patches of skin are intensely itchy and accompanied by small, red bumps that ooze or thicken skin.
Eczema typically isn’t a harmful condition on its own but it has the potential to leave open wounds that are prone to infection.
