What is Upneeq?
Upneeq is an FDA-approved, prescription eye drop that temporarily treats ptosis, a condition that causes droopy eyelids. Dr. Jennifer Armstrong and her team of cosmetic dermatology specialists are proud to offer Upneeq as a non-invasive solution for patients with blepharoptosis (droopy eyelids), who may not be ready for eyelid lift surgery.
Formulated with oxymetazoline ophthalmic, Upneeq is specifically created for patients with acquired blepharoptosis, a type of eyelid sagging that can develop over time. This once-a-day eye drop is simple to use and lasts for at least six hours once applied.

What Can I Expect During My
Upneeq Treatment?
Upneeq is a prescription treatment that you use at home once a day. After a careful examination, Dr. Armstrong can issue your prescription and give you detailed instructions on applying the medication yourself.
It’s important to note that Upneeq is not intended to treat congenital blepharoptosis, which is present at birth. However, these prescription eye drops can effectively treat Botox®-induced ptosis. Eyelid ptosis from Botox occurs when the neuromodulator injected into your forehead begins to migrate downward toward the muscles that control eyelid movement. While the concern is cosmetic and typically resolves once the effects of Botox wear off, Upneeq can improve the appearance of your ptosis in the meantime.
Understanding the cause of your blepharoptosis is essential before trying Upneeq. If you don’t know whether your condition is acquired or congenital, Dr. Armstrong may recommend visiting an ophthalmologist for an accurate diagnosis before recommending cosmetic treatment.
What Can I Expect After My Upneeq Treatment?
After applying Upneeq, results appear within a few minutes. Dry eye, redness, and irritation can occur, but these side effects should subside quickly. Once the medication wears off, your eyelid will gradually begin to droop again. You should not re-apply the eye drops once your results fade to minimize irritation and discomfort. Upneeq should only be used once a day to protect your eyes.
How Does Upneeq Compare to
Eyelid Surgery?
Upneeq is an ideal treatment for mild improvement of acquired droopy eyelids, but results are temporary. It is not a replacement for an eyelid lift, a surgical procedure that involves lifting the skin around the upper eyelids. Also called blepharoplasty, a surgical eyelid lift produces permanent results and can treat both acquired and genetic blepharoptosis.
Am I A Good Candidate for Upneeq?
Upneeq is an excellent treatment if you have mild or moderate acquired ptosis and are not currently interested in undergoing eyelid lift surgery. This temporary treatment is also ideal for those who aren’t candidates for surgery. Upneeq cannot treat ptosis from underlying eye injuries, nerve damage, sagging eyebrows, or excess skin. If you’re taking medication for cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, or if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, Upneeq may not be the right treatment for you.
