What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive vascular treatment that reduces the appearance of spider and varicose veins. This is done with the simple injection of special sclerosing agents that seal off the damaged veins, diminishing their appearance for the long term.
While sclerotherapy can be performed alone, Dr. Armstrong may recommend you receive these treatments in conjunction with our laser spider vein treatments. Sclerotherapy will work to seal off the damaged veins causing your discomfort and unwanted appearance, while the laser treatment will take action to reduce any lingering hyperpigmentation left behind.

What Can I Expect During my Sclerotherapy Treatment?
Your sclerotherapy treatments will be performed by Dr. Jennifer Armstrong in our state-of-the-art facility. Dr. Armstrong will begin by assessing the veins in your treatment area. This may require the use of an ultrasound depending on how deep your affected veins are. Dr. Armstrong will then begin injecting her specialized sclerosing agent into the affected veins until they are completely closed off and no longer visible. The sclerotherapy treatment process typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Dr. Armstrong may follow up your sclerotherapy treatment with a laser spider vein treatment upon request or as a recommendation.
What Can I Expect After my
Sclerotherapy Treatment?
Because sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure, there is no formal downtime or recovery period associated with treatment. Most patients report returning to their normal daily activities including work immediately following treatment. Patients who receive the laser spider vein treatment following their sclerotherapy may find that their skin is red, sensitive, and flaky over the following week. This is normal and typically resolves on its own. While you will be able to see some results of your sclerotherapy treatments immediately, ultimate results will become visible once all swelling subsides, about two to three days later. Dr. Armstrong may recommend a series of treatments to achieve your desired results.
