In 2003, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler for the correction of wrinkles. Currently, in medicine, hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers are the fastest growing non-invasive aesthetic procedure in the United States, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Juvéderm® has become the most popular of the hyaluronic gels with our patients. Juvéderm dermal filler, approved by the FDA in 2006, provides a soft feel and natural appearance. Juvéderm is also perfect for lip augmentation. Juvéderm offers a high level of control for the doctor, allowing for individualized, tailored facial contouring and for achieving a smooth and natural look. This differs from dermal fillers like Juvéderm and Teoxane which simply replenish volume in the skin that has thinned over time.

The product formulations include:
- Juvéderm Ultra: A highly cross-linked formulation for more versatility in contouring and volumizing of facial wrinkles and folds
- Juvéderm Ultra Plus: A more highly cross-linked robust formulation for volumizing and correction of deeper folds and wrinkles
- Juvéderm Voluma: For volume in the cheek area that lasts up to 24 months.
- Juvéderm Vollure: Stretches with the face and chases away marionette and laugh lines for up to 18 months.
- Juvéderm Volbella: The softest of fillers for lip lines and soft lip augmentation and to remove shadows under the eyes.
Juvéderm dermal filler was developed using a proprietary, technologically advanced manufacturing process that results in a malleable smooth gel. This malleability allows easy flow into the skin, creating a smooth, natural look and feel.
What Can I Expect During Facial Filler Treatment?
Before treatment, the dermatologist will clean your face and apply a numbing agent to reduce any discomfort. Then, with great care and precision, she injects the filler into the specified areas and massages it into place.
The entire procedure takes an hour or less. You may have some swelling after treatment, but an ice pack can immediately reduce that side effect, and you can go right back to your usual activities.
Most importantly, the results of dermal fillers are immediate.
How Long Do Results Last?
